STEM/PROJECT LEAD THE WAY

Design & Modeling (7th)
Students discover the design process and develop an understanding of the influence of creativity and innovation in their lives. They are then challenged and empowered to use and apply what they’ve learned throughout the unit to design a therapeutic toy for a child who has cerebral palsy.

Automation & Robotics (8th)
Students are given the opportunity to combine mechanisms with input and output devices to automate the mechanisms. Construction and programming skills are layered, and projects and the problem provide students the opportunity to connect their learning throughout the lessons in the unit. Students take on the role of interns, and work in teams to identify design requirements and create prototypes to meet the needs of clients. They also explore different aspects of automation and robotics, and experience how solving real-life problems involves the teamwork of mechanical engineers, software developers, and electrical engineers.

Flight & Space (7th)
The exciting world of aerospace comes alive through the Flight and Space (FS) unit. Students become engineers as they design, prototype, and test models to learn about the science of flight and what it takes to travel and live in space. They solve real-world aviation and space challenges and plan a mission to Mars.

Medical Detectives (8th)
Students play the role of real-life medical detectives as they collect and analyze medical data to diagnose disease. They solve medical mysteries through hands-on projects and labs, measure and interpret vital signs, examine nervous system structure and function, and investigate disease outbreaks.
TECHNOLOGY & MEDIA
- COMPUTERS (6th-8th)
Computers is a comprehensive course designed to introduce students to a wide range of essential technology skills. Throughout the course, students will explore topics such as Digital Citizenship, Internet Safety, and Keyboarding to build a solid foundation for responsible and effective use of technology.
Students will also develop proficiency in using Google Workspace, including Google Docs, Slides, Sheets, Drive, Gmail, And Google Classroom, while enhancing their digital literacy and research skills. The course also covers Computer Science basics, Coding, and hands-on projects like Stop Motion Animation and Digital Design and Publication using tools like Canva.
- YEARBOOK / JOURNALISM (8th)
Yearbook is a hands-on course where students take on the role of journalists, photographers, designers, and editors to create the school’s yearbook. Students will learn the fundamentals of graphic design, photography, storytelling and layout composition while using professional design software to produce a polished, memorable publication.
FOREIGN LANGUAGE
- SPANISH (7th-8th)
Spanish is an interactive course that introduces students to the basics of the Spanish language using Duolingo as a primary tool for learning. Students will develop their skills in speaking, listening, reading, and writing through engaging activities and games on a Duolingo platform.
FINE ARTS
- ART (6th)
This class is designed so those with art experience will be challenged, and those without will learn new skills. During the year students will explore a variety of media through drawing, painting, sculpting, crafting and other creative activities.
- ADVANCED ART (7th-8th)
This course is designed to further the skills of the serious artist. During the year students will explore a variety of media through drawing, painting, sculpting, crafting, fiber arts, and more creative activities.
- BAND (6th-8th)
Middle School Band is an exciting and interactive course that introduces students to the fundamentals of instrumental music. Students will learn to play a woodwind, brass, or percussion instrument and develop essential skills in reading music, rhythm, pitch, and technique. Throughout the course, students will engage in individual practice, group rehearsals, and ensemble performances to build their musicianship and teamwork skills. They will also explore different musical genres, including classical, jazz, and contemporary styles, to gain a well-rounded understanding of music.
- CHOIR (6th-8th)
Middle School Choir is a dynamic and engaging course that introduces students to the fundamentals of vocal music and choral performance. Students will develop essential skills in sight-singing, vocal technique, harmonization, and music theory while exploring a variety of musical styles, including classical, pop, and multicultural music.
- SHOW CHOIR (7th-8th)
Throughout the course, students will engage in individual vocal exercises and group rehearsal, learning how to sing in harmony, improve pitch accuracy, and enhance their vocal range. They will also participate in public performances and gain experience in stage presence and collaboration with their peers.
- DRAMA (7th-8th)
This course is designed as an introductory study of the theatrical arts. Theatre is a collaborative art enabling students to better understand the art form, gain an appreciation of the theater performance, and gain skills that are essential within the theater realm as well as within the workforce.
LIFE SKILLS
- POWER HOUR (6th)
This is a study hall like course that will focus on study skills. It will offer time for students to work on incomplete assignments and ask help from a qualified teacher.
- LIFETIME HOBBIES / ESPORTS (7th-8th)
During this class students will primarily be playing on the Nintendo Switch console the Switch to prepare for competitions with other schools. Students will compete in Mario Kart, Rocket League and Super Smash Brothers Ultimate.
PHYSICAL EDUCATION
- LIFETIME SPORTS (7th-8th)
This is a course that focuses on the benefits and importance of being physically active. The course includes learning about the proper way to lift weights to avoid injury and lifetime fitness while encouraging students to be physically active on a regular basis.
- WEIGHTS (7th-8th)
Weights is designed for athletes to learn and specialize in different training tailored to their sport of choice. They will work on strength training, agility and endurance. The course allows students to practice and develop their athletic skills during the school days.
